Qi peng (as he prefers to write his name; born October 7, 1976 in Queens, New York) is an Asian American contemporary artist who focuses on conceptual art and performance art in addition to paintings, works on paper, and conceptual photography. He received his bachelors degree at Vanderbilt University in 1997 and his masters degree at Yale University in 2001. His varied artwork, ranging from installation art to works on paper, deals with Institutional Critique and the contemporary art world in his pieces. In 2009, he had a solo show at envoy enterprises. He lives in Salt Lake City and works currently in both Salt Lake City and New York City. Conceptual art is art in which the concept(s) or idea(s) involved in the work take precedence over traditional aesthetic and material concerns. Many of the works, sometimes called installations, of the artist Sol LeWitt may be constructed by anyone simply by following a set of written instructions.
