High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles! In physics, the quantum eraser experiment is a double-slit experiment that demonstrates several laws of quantum mechanics, including wave-particle duality, which seeks to explain certain wave and particle properties of matter, complementarity, and the Copenhagen interpretation of quantum mechanics, which outlines the idea that, in quantum mechanics, to gain an accurate measurement of one aspect of certain experimental subjects is to lose precision in its counterpart (much like attempting to view both sides of a coin at once). The experiment also utilizes a special crystal for its ability to produce photon pairs from a single photon and the use of an interferometer to explore the wave-like nature of an object. The quantum eraser experiment is a variation of Young's double slit experiment. It establishes that when a photon is acted upon in a fashion that allows which slit it has passed through to be calculated, the photon cannot interfere with itself. When a stream of photons is marked in this way, then the interference fringes characteristic of the Young experiment will not be seen.
