Haggard verbrachte einige Zeit in Südafrika, wo er Erfahrungen sammelte, die seine späteren Romane prägten. Sein bekanntestes Werk ist "König Salomons Schatzkammer", das zu einer der klassischen Abenteuergeschichten der viktorianischen Ära wurde. Haggard schrieb über 50 Bücher, die sich oft mit Themen wie Kolonialismus, Abenteuer und übernatürlichen Elementen beschäftigten. Er verstarb am 14. Mai 1925 in England.
