Initially published in 1983 as the seventeenth book in the original Choose Your Own Adventure Series by Bantam Books. It joined The Abominable Snowman, Journey Under the Sea and a number of Montgomery''s other Choose Your Own Adventures in the 2005 re-release of the series under its new publisher Chooseco LLC, which is owned in part by Montgomery himself. When it was republished, it was renumbered as the 7th book in the New Series. Race Forever puts the reader in the driver seat as they vie to win, or at least finish, one of the most grueling races in the world, the African Road Rallies. There are two races, a "speed race" in the first section and a "rough road race" in the second, which begins on page 67 in the original and page 70 in the reissue. In addition to choices in the best route and fastest car, the reader faces obstacles in the form of bandits, geography, a charging black rhinoceros, and even sabotage. The differences between the spoils of victory and eating dust are but a few choices apart.
