Please note that the content of this book primarily consists of articles available from Wikipedia or other free sources online. Races are social constructs. Therefore, what is understood as "race" in one particular society is not the same that is understood as such in another society. This article seeks to explain the concept of race as it is used and understood in Brazil. Brazilian population was formed by the influx of Portuguese settlers and African, mostly Bantu and West African populations (such as the Yoruba, Ewe, and Fanti-Ashanti) slaves into a territory originally inhabited by various indigenous populations, mainly Tupi-Guarani and Ge Later, in the late XIX and early XX centuries, in what is known as Great Immigration, new groups arrived, mainly of Portuguese, Italian, Spanish and German origin, but also from Japan, the Middle East, and Eastern Europe.
