Rachel Hirschfeld (born January 20, 1946, Tel Aviv, Israel), practicing in New York City, is an advocate for companion animals and an attorney in the area of estate planning with a focus on trusts providing for the ongoing care of pets. She developed the "Pet Protection Agreement", a legal document establishing terms of continuing care for companion animals through the appointment of a pet guardian. Hirschfeld is a naturalized U.S. citizen who was born in Tel Aviv, Israel. She is the daughter of real estate developer Abraham Hirschfeld and her family moved to the United States and then to Canada in 1950. She became a U.S. citizen in 1960. Hirschfeld became a lawyer at age 57, graduating from Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law (Yeshiva University, New York), 2003.[3] She is currently in private practice, concentrating in estate planning for people with pets.
