Part of a trio of plays about British institutions, it focuses on the Church of England, and tackles issues such as gay ordination, and the role of evangelism in inner-city communities. The play debuted at the National Theatre. Sir David Hare (born 5 June 1947) is an English playwright and theatre and film director. Hare was born David Rippon in St Leonards-on-Sea, Hastings, East Sussex, the son of Agnes (née Gilmour) and Clifford Theodore Rippon, a sailor.
