The Radiation Belt Storm Probes (RBSP) is a NASA mission under the Living With a Star (LWS) program. The goal of the LWS program is to develop the scientific understanding necessary to effectively address those aspects of the connected Sun-Earth system that directly affect life and society. The mission of RBSP is to gain scientific understanding (to the point of predictability) of how populations of relativistic electrons and ions in space form or change in response to changes in solar activity and the solar wind. The RBSP mission is currently scheduled for 2012. The Critical Design Review for the mission was completed in December 2009.
