Raewyn Connell (born January 3, 1944), is a transgender woman and an Australian social scientist known for her work in the disciplines of sociology, education, gender studies, political science and history. She is currently a Professor at the University of Sydney's Faculty of Education and Social Work, and a Fellow of the Australian Academy of Social Sciences. Connell's publications are considered highly influential in Australian sociological academia, particularly on the topics of gender and power. In 2003, the Australian Sociological Association conducted a survey that placed Connell's books first, fourth, fifth and sixth in the top 10 books "considered to have most profoundly shaped the sociological scholarship in this country".
