High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles! RAF Station Folkingham is a former World War II airfield in Lincolnshire, England. The airfield is located approximately 19 miles (31 km) west-northwest of Holbeach; about 89 miles (143 km) north of London. Opened in 1940, it was used by both the Royal Air Force and United States Army Air Force. During the war it was used primarily as a troop carrier airfield for airborne units. After the war it was closed 1947. During the late 1950s and early 1960s, the RAF Bomber Command used Folkingham as a PGM-17 Thor Intermediate Range Ballistic Missile (IRBM) base. Today the remains of the airfield are located on private property being used as agricultural fields.
