He received his MBBS degree from Liaqat Medical College and MBA degree from Stanford. He turned to politics in 1985, and was elected to the National Assembly of Pakistan for the terms of 1985-1988, 1990-1993, 1993-1997,1997-1999.He has been part of the Provisnal assembly for the year 2002-2007 and became a senator in 2009 from Sindh . His family has been in politics since 1925. He is also the CEO of Gujar group of companies . He is also one of the landlords of Pakistan. He is married with four children: two sons and two daughters. His oldest son, Ali Rafiq Gujar is active in politics and after completing his studies like his father and uncles will soon take part in politics.
