Rainbow of Translation

The intercultural translation is to communicate and Communication is evaluated by audience s satisfaction. Communication is accomplished via verbal as well as visual means and their interaction makes a set of complex situation which demands special attention in translating, esp. in children s picture books. Generally, visual means are interpreted from a cultural point of view. Therefore, for the child, with insufficient worldview and much reliance on visuals to get the meaning, special attention should be paid in translating these means, such as color- what is neglected by the responsibles. To investigate the how of intercultural transference of colors and the relationship of words and colors, Nida and De Waard s (1986) adaptation theory is utilized. This book embraces multiple aspects: a literature review on and importance of colors in children s literature; a review on semiotics and visual signs; relationship between words and nonverbal; color symbolism in children s literature and its translation. This work would benefit the members of translation community: translators and illustrators as conveyers, publishers as commissioners, and art directors as supervisors.

Firoozeh Mohammadi Hassanabadi, MA: studied Translation Studies at University of Isfahan, Iran. Currently a PhD student of Semiotics, University of Tartu, Estonia.
