Recent Surgical Techniques
Details
The displacement of the gingival margin apical to the cementoenamel junction is defined as gingival recession. Patients frequently are disturbed by recession owing to sensitivity and aesthetics. Many techniques have been introduced to treat gingival recession, including connective tissue grafting, or CTG, free gingival grafting (FGG); various flap designs etc. Each technique has unique indications, advantages, and disadvantages and when proper principles are followed usually leads to successful results in terms of gaining adequate attached gingiva, and matching to the proper colour of the gingiva. However, newer techniques apart from the gold standard methods, for treating mandibular gingival recessions have come into picture in the recent times. These methods are proving to be more practical in terms of aesthetics as well as in terms of sensitivity of the technique. The purpose of this book is to articulate the recent techniques so as to aid the reader and help in evaluating which methods to use for the treatment of mandibular recession.
