Reducing life cycle impacts of existing dwellings: An Irish case study
Details
The often used technique in sustainability assessment of existing national housing stocks is to narrow or inaccurately expand the system boundary. Literature does not reveal previous studies which assess a holistic view of the environmental impacts associated with housing stocks. This book represents an accessible but comprehensive treatment of sustainability assessment of existing dwellings across all life cycle phases including all upstream processes, installation of materials, maintenance of heating/ventilation appliances and all associated transportation, and using Irish housing as an example, as well as the contemporary issue of sustainability. The book gives an overview of the role of buildings in contributing to the improvement of the value of people s lives. It contains a number of topics that will be of immense interest to both who do not have a former background in environmental science and those who teach courses in this discipline. It reflects various topics on extensive material on facilities management, statistics, mathematics, chemistry, climatology, building science and policy, as well as the main focus of sustainable development in the residential sector.
