REFLECTIONS ON LAW NO. 14.284 OF 2021

Bolsa Família was created by Provisional Measure No. 132 of October 20, 2003. The program was created from the reorganization of other existing programs, such as Bolsa Escola and Bolsa Alimentação, and its aim was to promote social assistance and fight hunger and poverty. In 2017, the program enabled 3.4 million people to leave extreme poverty and another 3.2 million to overcome poverty. In August 2021, through Provisional Measure No. 1,061, the federal government announced the creation of Auxílio Brasil to replace Bolsa Família. The main theme of this book is the Auxílio Brasil program and the budgetary obstacles faced by the government as a risk to the viability of the proposal.
