The issue is relevant because, although the prison system is considered preventive, it has numerous flaws, and the outlook for those in state custody is somewhat uncertain. The system is ineffective, so providing conditions for resocialization is the state's duty. It cannot be denied that the purpose of sentencing, more precisely its effectiveness, does not correspond to society's desires, which is to safeguard individual and public safety. The offender, after serving his sentence, will hardly be able to return to social life, because the prison system is increasingly bankrupt, making it impossible to comply with and apply Law 7.210/1984, which guarantees prisoners minimum welfare conditions. Redeeming your sentence for studying not only allows you to learn and expand your knowledge, which has a direct impact on expanding your opportunities when you leave prison, but it also represents a way for inmates to write off days of their sentence. Thus, it is an incentive and a means of preparing these individuals so that when they return to society, they can make decisions and follow different paths.
