Reproduction in bees

The honey bee Apis Mellifera is one of the species protected worldwide by the OIA. Several studies have been carried out on the protection of bees, based on genetics and particularly on reproduction. The bee is a polyandrous species because copulation takes place with several males. Problems with the fertility of queen bees are most often linked to a failure in production and the quality of the drones' sperm is questioned. The study of harvesting techniques reveals no significant influence on the quality of seed in drones as well as that stored in the queen. Compared to other species, bee seed seems to have all the parameters that allow short or long term conservation. A lot of research needs to be done in the field of bee reproduction in order to fight against the collapse that bees are undergoing nowadays.
