Research Methods in Horticulture

Although there is no unanimity of opinion among writers on what constitutes research, there is a general agreement that research is any organized and carefully planned substantial effort or systematic inquiry designed to further knowledge and understanding of a subject. It may also be defined as a scientific investigation aimed at discovering and applying new facts, and techniques. Research is the systematic process of collecting and analyzing information to increase our understanding of the phenomenon under study. It can be carried out in the laboratory, greenhouse, and pot culture or in the field. The term research came into English from the old French root word cerchier, meaning to search or seek, and the prefix re, meaning again. Therefore, research is seeking again, or an intensive search with a view to becoming certain
