Magnesium Diboride (MgB2) is a newcomer in the field
of superconductors.
It offers an easily attainable usage temperature
around 20 K with cheap wire cost. However, the wires
employ different matrix materials than superconductor
engineers are used to use. These, in principle,
result in reduced stability. Also, ferromagnetic
components may be included, which causes
peculiarities in the modelling of coil critical
current. This book considers stability issues of MgB2
superconductors, while also discussing on the
computation of coil critical current when a wire
includes ferromagnetic matrix. A detailed outline is
also given in the background of the book;
electromagnetism, thermodynamics and
superconductivity are discussed in a reasonable
extent. Then, stability models, as well as a variety
of measurement results, are presented and discussed
in detail. This book gives an outstanding opportunity
to familiarise oneself with the stability of
superconductors and especially for modelling the
related phenomena. The book works as a good guideline
for both the young beginning researchers and the
senior scientists with its remarkable effort on pedagogy.
