Research Proposal

This book is a simplified presentation of the fundamentals of research. Its technically simple style is aimed at making the book accessible to students and early career researchers. The book provides a step-by-step guide on how to write a research proposal and explains each of the elements of a research proposal in simple and understandable terms that are accessible to researchers of diverse backgrounds. The research proposal's elements discussed include study title, study background and rationale, statement of the problem, research questions, study hypothesis, aim and objectives of the study, literature review, research theoretical framework, research paradigm, research methodology, research trustworthiness/ study reliability and validity, ethical considerations, scope and limitation of the study, significance of the study and a host of other specific issues under each of the elements including sampling techniques and different types of research and their suitable data gathering and data analysis techniques. The book further discusses different ways in which sections of a research project, dissertation, or thesis may be outlined.

Associate Professor Francis C. L. Rakotsoane holds a Bachelor of Philosophy Degree from the Urbaniana Uni of Rome, a Master of Social Sciences Degree, a Ph.D. from the Uni of Cape Town, and a Postgraduate Diploma in Health Research Ethics from the Uni of Stellenbosch. He has published several books on a variety of subjects.
