RESILIENCE TO CLIMATE CHANGE IN MATANZAS, CUBA

The climatic vulnerability of Matanzas, Cuba is evident after more than 10 years of studies on the subject with the design of local future climate scenarios, choosing specialized meteorological services as tools for adaptation to climate change; the diagnosis of the fundamental economic activities of the territory was made, determining how the climate influences them and vice versa, 50 years of data from the seven meteorological stations were used. Our support to advise the different sectors in the design of their adaptation strategies made it possible to reduce vulnerability, with the implementation of actions based on the results of science and technological innovation achieved by the Provincial Meteorological Center, which became specialized scientific and technical services, to increase the resilience of nature, the economy and society to the impacts of a changing climate, which contributes to strengthen adaptation and its accurate confrontation to drought, thermal variations, medium-term rainfall cycles and other anomalies detected during local climate monitoring in the very short term.
