Respiratory muscle strength in individuals with OSAS
Details
Obstructive Sleep Apnea Syndrome (OSAS) is defined as the interruption of airflow for more than 10 seconds in individuals who have five or more episodes every hour of sleep during the night. It is the most serious occurrence of upper airway obstructive disorders which, in addition to disrupting sleep, can cause anxiety, irritability, insulin resistance, increase the risk of accidents and the development of cardiovascular diseases, contributing to a reduction in quality of life. Among patients with OSAS, the use of benzodiazepines is common. These drugs have been shown to induce sleep and reduce muscle tone. This study aimed to assess respiratory muscle strength in individuals with OSAS, as well as its relationship with benzodiazepines.
