Benzofurans and their derivatives are present in remarkable amounts in plants, although their presence has also been detected in microorganisms and animal sources. It was synthesized from variety of substituted phenols, iodophenols, o-hydroxybenzaldehydes, o-hydroxyacetophenone, etc and study their biological activity. It was one of the most biological potent skeleton. Several studies have revealed that various substituents on the benzofuran core structure influence different biological activities such as anti-tumor, anti-coagulant, anti-inflammatory, anti-oxidant, anti-HIV and anti-bacterial.
