Rise of the Circadian Novel in Twentieth Century

Circadian novels are the novels that take place entirely in one day. Important examples are James Joyce's Ulysses and Virginia Woolf's Mrs. Dalloway. This book tries to explain why this type of novels were so popular during the 20th century, taking a closer look at around a hundred examples of circadian novels from all over the world. What in the turmoil of the 20th century Europe inspired the major authors of the time to limit the plot of their story to just 24 hours?

Born in 1991, Ronak Ahmady Ahangar is a PhD candidate in English Literature from Azad University of Tehran, South Branch. Passionate about novels, she currently owns and runs a bookstore in her hometown of Babol in the Mazandaran province of Iran while teaching English Literature at a local university.
