Details

Motorcycle is one of the largest means of transportation in Nigeria and many other low and middle income countries globally. Hence the term 'Commercial motorcycle'. It is a means of livelihood for many as it is a means of transportation. Many families depends on the proceeds to feed and survive. However due to the unprotective nature of the vehicle and risk taking habits of the riders, people get fatally injured when involved in traffic injuries. This has brought about great loss of life, loss of healthy life years and DALYs (Disability Adjusted Life Years). Taking a closer look into the risk perception of riders seem essential due to the rising incidence of commercial motorcycle injuries and my first hand experience of treating injured riders while working as Emergency medical officer at the University College Hospital, Ibadan, Nigeria. The manuscript which led to the publication of this book was written to fulfill the research requirement needed to obtain a Master's degree in Medical Science at the Lund University, Sweden.
