ROAD GOVERNANCE IN UGANDA

This book is about transportation governance systems and specifically looking at to road reserve encroachment in Uganda. It looks at the governance systems of roads, the leaders and actors and the systems thereof. It explains the causes encroachment and how it can be stopped. The book recognizes that road side space utilization in cities is important because it creates orderliness and harmonious development of infrastructure. Transportation and land use planning should be able to help determine who uses which land, where and for what purpose.The book makes a strong conclusion that transportation planning remains one of the most daunting challenges in developing cities due to inadequate skills and resources but also due to lack of political will on the part of leaders to prioritize urban planning and management as a key aspect of promoting urban citizenry welfare. The book is the first of a kind in Uganda and possibly in Africa. Policy makers, academicians and scholars interested in road transportation will find it most valuable.
