Road Transportation and Land Use Dynamics in Hawassa City, Ethiopia

Uncoordinated development between transportation and land use systems leads to unplanned land use changes in urban space. This book illuminates unplanned land use changes following lack of integration between transportation and land use in the study area. The data used for this study is from different document analysis and from primary sources which was used to analyze land use dynamisms cum transportation development. The study results contribute for urban and transportation planning in developing countries. The study results have also shown adverse environmental implications related to unplanned land use development. Incompatible land use results in health problems for the surrounding population in one hand and generates unnecessary trips which again has both environmental and economic implications for the residents of the city.

Gebrechristos Nuriye is an Assistant Professor of Urban Planning and Development in Ethiopian Civil Service University from where he obtained a Ph.D. in Urban Planning and Development. He published a number of quality articles in reputable international journals in areas of transportation and urban related issues.
