Two U.S. highways and numerous state highways serve the city of Ashland, Kentucky directly, while an interstate and a U.S. highway serve the city indirectly. Three federal highways enter Ashland or come very close to it. US 23 (also known as Corridor B according to the ADHS) enters from the northwest at Westwood and crosses over a hill-to-valley viaduct into downtown Ashland. It diverges to Greenup Avenue, with Winchester Avenue becoming Business US 23 at 7th Street. Business US 23 reconnects to US 23 southeast near 35th Street. US 23 is also concurrent with US 60 from 11th Street southeast to the Catlettsburg city line. In three separate projects between 1971 and 1972, the US 23/US 60 concurrency was widened from two to four-lanes. This included Greenup Avenue and Winchester Avenue east to Catlettsburg.
