High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles! Robert Cheseret, (born October 8, 1983, in Kaptel, Kenya) is a long-distance runner, formerly for Kenya now training to quality to represent the U.S. in the 2012 Olympics. "Kapchii" means "family" in the Kalenjin language, spoken by Arizona cross-country runners Robert Cheseret -- who carries his family's last name -- and his younger sister, Irine Lagat -- who took her father's middle name as her last. They are two siblings from a kapchii of 10 children who grew up running since they were young. "Even Dad and Mom were runners," Robert said of his parents, Richard and Marsalina. "They taught the rest of the family to run." Growing up on a family farm in Kapsabet, Kenya, where competitive running is the equivalent to hockey in Canada, Robert, Irine and the others were quick to adopt the sport because it brought the family together. Robert is the 2004, 2005, and 2006 PAC-10 Champion and runner of the year. Cheseret, was a senior from Kapsabet, Kenya, who became the first PAC-10 athlete to earn Track Athlete of the Year honors three times.
