Rodney Blackhirst (born 3 October 1960) is an Australian writer and academic working in the field of philosophy and religious studies. Blackhirst currently lectures in religious studies at La Trobe University, Australia. His doctoral thesis offered a new interpretation of the mythological background of Plato's cosmology. He is sometimes counted as a "neo-traditionalist" with sympathies for Rene Guenon, Ananda K. Coomaraswamy, Titus Burckhardt and similar writers in what is often called the "Traditionalist" school of comparative religion. In his own works he uses the term "perennialism" or "primordialism" rather than "traditionalism" to describe his general position. His primary interests are in the Platonic, Pythagorean, hermetic and alchemical traditions.
