Rodolphe Louis Agassiz (1871 - July 31, 1933) was a polo champion who participated in the 1902 International Polo Cup. He later became chairman of the board of the Calumet and Hecla Mining Company. He was born in 1871 to Alexander Emmanuel Rodolphe Agassiz (1835-1910) and Anna Russell (1840-1873). His brothers were George R. Agassiz and Maximillian Agassiz. In 1888 he was thrown from his horse in Newport, Rhode Island. He died on July 31, 1933. The Calumet and Hecla Mining Company was a major copper-mining company based in the Michigan Copper Country. In the 19th century, the company paid out more than $72 million in shareholder dividends, more than any other mining company in the United States during that period.
