Roger Thomas Howe is a Professor of Electrical Engineering at Stanford University. He received the Ph.D. degree from UC Berkeley and taught at M.I.T. before returning to Berkeley for his teaching career until 2006, when he moved to Stanford. He is well-known for his contributions to the field of silicon micromachining and is often identified as one of the forefathers of Micro-electro-mechanical-systems (MEMS). Electrical engineering is a field of engineering that generally deals with the study and application of electricity, electronics and electromagnetism. The field first became an identifiable occupation in the late nineteenth century after commercialization of the electric telegraph and electrical power supply. It now covers a range of subtopics including power, electronics, control systems, signal processing and telecommunications.
