Role of Fenugreek in the Prevention of Type 2 Diabetes in Prediabetes

This was a three years interventional study where subjects were screened based on inclusion/exclusion criteria and randomized into control and treatment arms. Subjects were followed up for every three months to monitor their anthropometric, clinical and biochemical parameters. Collected data was analyzed using statistical tools. By the end of three years, outcome of diabetes in both the groups was determined by assessing their fasting and post prandial plasma glucose, HbA1c, lipid profile, urine micro albumin and insulin levels. Subjects have also undergone fundoscopy, chest X-ray, ECG etc., to assess the potential risk of vascular complications. In this study we have observed that subjects with prediabetes showed better improvement in prevention of diabetes following alternative modes of management. Dietary supplementation of 10 g Fenugreek/day in prediabetes subjects was associated with lower conversion to diabetes.
