Role of hormonal contraceptives in HIV infection among antenatals
Details
HIV infection has been increasing gradually in the whole world and more so among women of reproductive age. Many factors have contributed to this spread since the discovery of the disease in the early 1980s. Besides, many studies have been conducted to find out the factors that promote its spread, prevention methods and treatment options. Among the studies done on the possible factors associated with HIV infection was " The role of hormonal contraceptives in HIV infection among antenatal mothers in Machakos district/county hospital in Kenya". This was done in the year 2006 to 2007. The results led to production of this booklet. Though done for academic purpose, this study indicated that hormonal contraceptives are not associated with enhanced HIV infection among the women who had used such contraceptives. They coincided and cleared some doubts about the same on earlier studies. However, other factors were found to be associated with HIV infection for example presence of sexually transmitted infections among others. Hope you will find it interesting to read.
