Role of Records in Promoting Good Governance in Zanzibar

Academic writings on Records Management in East Africa are scarce and far apart. Students majoring in this field depend on monographs written abroad, with many foreign tastes and experiences. For this reason alone, Dr. Haji deserves credits. The book on our hands explains how Record keeping infrastructures in Zanzibar are inefficient and how; given the absence of a transparent system; bribery and the problem of ghost workers (among other governance issues)are rampant. It, therefore, provides students and the public service with the best reference materials in the management of records in the local context. It is probably the first ever monograph in these regions that links records with governance issues to be published. Dr. Haji has done a splendid job connecting academic life with public service. Consequently, it is hoped that the book will be used for many decades and will perform great service on both fronts; and for this reason; the work becomes a valuable addition to the development of Records Management studies.
