Role of tobacco products in carcinogenesis

Cancer is a fundamental aberration in cellular behaviour touching on many aspects of molecular cell biology. A normal cell can be transformed to malignancy by the expression of one or a few oncogenes. There is overwhelming evidence that tobacco usage produces harmful effects in the oral cavity. In this document the harmful effects of tobacco usage are briefly reviewed. The preparation of tobacco, duration and frequency influences the pathological lesion encountered.
