ROMANS 11:11
Details
The intent of this study is to examine primarily the meaning of Rom 11:11. The study will also consider a possible background as a theological framework of the passage. The study is significant for several reasons. It will suggest an alternative reading of the passage in its historical context. It will bring to light a theological framework within which the passage and Romans may be better read. The scope of this study is two-fold. In the background search, a possible scenario of the relationship of Israel's transgression and Gentiles' salvation will be presented. It will consider the circumstance in which salvation becomes available to Gentiles so as to have a fair presentation of such a relationship in Jewish tradition. Any tradition that does not delineate such relationship will not be treated. Second, the syntax of the dative, the articular infinitive, and the theological framework of Rom 11:11 will be the sole concern. While the stumbling of Israel is related to the concept of hardening of Israel in Rom 11, the concept falls outside the purview of this study.
