High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles! The Rufous-collared Robin (Turdus rufitorques) is a species of bird in the Turdidae family. It is endemic to highlands of Middle America, south of the Isthmus of Tehuantepec, occurring in El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, and Chiapas state in Mexico. Its closest relative is the American Robin, and like that species, it is found in varied habitats, from towns to forest. It is, however, restricted to highland areas with at least some trees. It is also known as the Rufous-collared Thrush. The Thrushes, family Turdidae, are a group of passerine birds that occur mainly but not exclusively in the Old World. Thrushes are plump, soft-plumaged, small to medium-sized birds, inhabiting wooded areas, and often feed on the ground or eat rose hips. They range in size from the Forest Rock-thrush (Monticola sharpei), at 21 grams and 14.5 cm (5.8 inches), to the Blue Whistling-thrush (Myophonus caeruleus), at 178 grams (6.3 oz) and 33 cm (13 inches). Most species are grey or brown in colour, often with speckled underparts.
