Rural Development and Farmers Welfare Programmes in India

Rural development and farmers welfare are the core components of todays agriculture. Rural Development is the process of improving the quality of life and economic well-being of people living in rural areas, often relatively isolated and sparsely populated areas. Rural development has traditionally centered on the exploitation of land-intensive natural resources such as agriculture and forestry. However today, the increasing urbanization and the change in global production networks have transformed the nature of rural areas.Rural development still remains the core of the overall development of the country. More than two-third of the country's people are dependent on agriculture for their livelihood, and one-third of rural India is still below the poverty line. Therefore, it is important for the government to be productive and provide enough facilities to upgrade their standard of living. This book focusses on different programmes or schemes initiated by Government for the welfare of the farmers and development of rural India as a whole. The content presented in this book will helps the student communities for their academic progress as well competitive or civil exams.

Dr. Shankara M.H. arbeitet als Assistenzprofessor und Leiter der Abteilung für Sozialwissenschaften am College of Agriculture, Hassan, Karnataka. Er absolvierte B.Sc (Agri.), M.Sc (Agril. Extension) und Ph.D (Agril. Extension) an der Universität für Agrarwissenschaften, Bangalore, Karnataka. Er schrieb 23 Bücher und erhielt mehr als 10 nationale und internationale Auszeichnungen.
