High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles! Forel (Russian: , German: Forelle - Trout) was a midget submarine built for the Imperial Russian Navy by Krupp in Kiel, Germany. She was delivered to Russia in May 1904 as a gift fom the Krupp company after an order for 3 submarines for the Russian navy (Karp-type, basis for the German U-1) and later shipped to Vladivostok by rail at the time of the Russo-Japanese War. She was not successful and was decommissioned in 1911. A midget submarine is any submarine under 150 tons, typically operated by a crew of one or two but sometimes up to 6 or 8, with little or no on-board living accommodation. Midget submarines normally work with mother ships, from which they are launched and recovered, and which provide living accommodation for the crew and other support staff.
