High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles! The Saastal or the Saas Valley is an alpine valley in the Canton of Valais, Switzerland. It is separated from the Mattertal valley by the Dom. In 1851, Domherr Peter Joseph Ruppen wrote about Die Chronik des Thales Saas, the Chronicle of the Saas Valley. It is still the work over the Saas Valley. Persons like Peter Joseph Zurbriggen and Alois Zurbriggen kept the chronicle scientifically. Until 1893, the municipalities of Almagell, Balen, Fee and Grund were part of Pfarrei. A church is in Saas-Grund which includes the inhabitants of Almagell, Balen and Fee. Mattmarksee is a reservoir built in the 1960s.
