Sabine Spitz (born December 27, 1971 in Herrischried/Bad Säckingen) is a German cross country cyclist. She won bronze in Women''s cross-country at the 2004 Summer Olympics and gold in the event in the 2008 Summer Olympics. Furthermore she became World Champion in 2003. Cross-country (XC) cycling is the most common discipline of mountain biking. While less publicized than downhill cycling as it is more difficult to televise, it garners the highest levels of participation both recreationally and competitively. Cross-country cycling became an Olympic sport in 1996 and is the only form of mountain biking practiced at the Summer Olympics.
