Hemiascomycetes is a more or less synonymous name. Saccharomycetales is an order in the kingdom of fungi that comprises the budding yeasts and includes twelve families. According to the 2007 Outline of Ascomycota, genera included within the order, but of uncertain taxonomic position (incertae sedis) include Ascobotryozyma, Hyphopichia, Kodamaea, Nakazawaea, Phaffomyces, Starmera, Starmerella, and Yamadazyma. Yeasts are eukaryotic micro-organisms classified in the kingdom Fungi, with about 1,500 species currently described; they dominate fungal diversity in the oceans. Most reproduce asexually by budding, although a few do so by binary fission.
