Sadao (town), a town and the surrounding district, Amphoe Sadao, on the border of Malaysia in the Songkhla Province, southern Thailand. The original name of Sadao were known as Changlun, means ''the falling of an elephant'' in Malay. The district were once a part of Changlun, and under the overlordship of Malay Sultanate of Kedah, in Thai known as Saiburi. When the United Kingdom and Siam (Thailand) signed the Anglo-Siamese Treaty of 1909, the area of Changlun were divided into two parts, which is: the main border town of Changlun in the district of Kubang Pasu, State Kedah of Malaysia; the other part of Changlun remained with Siam, i.e. tambon Sadao.
