There are several districts (called colonies) in Delhi located close to the tomb of Safdarjung, the second Nawab of Awadh, which are named for the Nawab. Safdarjung Enclave, developed by the Delhi Land Federation or DLF in the 1960s, is located just south of the Ring Road and north of the Hauz Khas Deer Park. South of Hauz Khas village is Safdarjung Development Area, built in the 1960s as an extension south. Both colonies are primarily residential, and are bases for the affluent upper class. Safdarjung Enclave was one of the first colonies in Delhi to be built after Partition that did not include land grants for refugees from what is now Pakistan.
