The third extrasolar X-ray source detected within the constellation Sagittarius by the X-ray observatory satellite Uhuru was designated Sagittarius X-3 (Sgr X-3) and given the catalog entry, 2U 1758-20, which includes the source's right ascension (RA) 17h 58m and declination (Dec) -20°. Another X-ray source detected nearby instead of Sgr X-3 was designated GX 9+01. Both sources are often considered the same and compose the X-ray part of a low mass X-ray binary, (LMXB). The X-ray source is probably a neutron star in orbit around a low mass star, detectable in the visual portion of the electromagnetic spectrum, and referred to as a 'visual counterpart', that has not as yet been identified.
