The story centers around brash, bold American divorcee Mimi Paragon, working as a hostess on a British cruise ship. The musical ran on Broadway and the West End.Sail Away had its out-of-town tryouts for 3 weeks each in Boston and Philadelphia. The show opened on Broadway on October 3, 1961 at the Broadhurst Theatre and closed on February 24, 1962 after 167 performances. Coward directed the production, Joe Layton choreographed, with scenic design by Oliver Smith, costume design by Helene Pons and Oliver Smith, and lighting Design by Peggy Clark. The cast starred Elaine Stritch as Mimi Paragon.
