Sam Webb is an American activist and the current leader of Communist Party USA. Now a resident of New York City, Webb was born in Maine and graduated in 1967 from St. Francis Xavier University in Nova Scotia. He received a Master''s in Economics from the University of Connecticut. He worked as a Communist Party state organizer in Michigan from 1978 to 1988. Sam Webb''s public positions have been critical of the current United States government institutions and class structure, but relatively uncritical of the principles of American government (such as democracy and checks and balances), which is consistent with the current policies of the CPUSA. Webb is a staunch proponent of socialism and democracy.
