Sansevieria zeylanica: Potential Origin of Therapeutic Applications

Sansevieria zeylanica (L.) Willd. (Common name: Bow-String Hemp or Good Luck Plants/ Hammocks) is a xerophytic and succulent plant species with perennial flowering used in traditional medicines and consists of several important properties in alcoholic extracts from their parts including roots, leaves and flowers. It is a glorious ornamental plant sources for the medicinal and pharmacological applications utilized by the ethnic groups. Ornamental plants exhibited an important role in the discovery of novel drugs that are mainly used in the modern medicine. Bioorganic synthesis of methanolic leaf extracts from the plant parts is a simple, cost-effective and eco-friendly approach. The extracts of roots, leaves, flowers and fruits can be an effective drug employed for various human diseases. Alcoholic plant extracts act as anticancer, anti-microbial, antioxidant, antitumour and cytotoxic agents. This plays an important role in numerous industrial areas such as pharmaceutical, pharmacological and medical fields of research. Current study confirmed the therapeutic potency of this plants can used in traditional medicine and advanced pharmacology.
