Save our Souls: A saga of Marital Victim Violence

Research indicates that wife abuse is evident in almost all the societies. Indian studies, analyzing the family violence, more particularly violence against women are not many. As the rate of incidence of wife abuse is continuously increasing in India, there is an urgent need for prevention and intervention of wife abuse. The formulation of effective and sustainable intervention strategies of violence against wives requires a comprehensive understanding of all dimensions of the problem.This volume systematically examines the correlates of wife abuse, the patterns of wife abuse and the coping mechanisms exist among abused women. This book analyzed various aspects of marital relationships in the families of abused wives, such as socio demographic profile of the victims of wife abuse and their husbands, dowry system, socio-economic in consistency among couples, inter-generational transmission of violence, cultural approval of wife-beating, social isolation of wife and family conflicts. This book also presents a comprehensive analysis of the concept of status of women and family violence in India. The case studies give a touching experiences of wife abuse.
